Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning Filming Locations

I made a post regarding the filming location for Tina and Eddie's death in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning a few months back according to quasi directions given to me by John Robert Dixon about 6 or 7 years ago. Well, that location that I posted was not right.

Here are the real locations! This area is also right off of Mulholland Drive. The location which I posted before is very close to the store used in the film, so I figured it was the place. However, these scenes were shot in Franklin Canyon in Beverly Hills, California. The very same place the kill scenes for Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter were shot – as well as the scenes where the teens were driving in that same film.

Above is a small clearing coming off of a main trail. This is right before their death spot. Vegetation has changed greatly in the past 30 years since this is now a very popular hiking trail.

In the close-up of Tina and Eddie kissing you can see a trail going upward behind them. That trail connects to another trail, which leaves to Franklin Canyon Drive. Across the street is where the "trailer park" – were Reggie met Demon – was filmed.

This is the area where Tina and Eddie had sex, and where Tina was killed. It's a very active area for hikers, and is now very well worn. Again, you can see the trail behind going upward.

Here is the area where Eddie was throwing rocks into the water. There's three photos that I snapped – one from each side of the little pond area and a close-up of the overgrown water. This area is actually just a narrow area of the Franklin Canyon Reservoir (also known as Myers Lake, where the intro to the Andy Griffith Show was shot).  This area is also now overgrown with sawgrass, but there is still water.

This is a trail leading to where their sex scene was shot and to the water, quite possibly the route Eddie took in the film as it is the only trail in the general area.

The above series of photos are from the "trailer park" scenes. Its right across the road from where Tina and Eddie's death scenes were shot. This is actually a small parking lot for the Heavenly Pond, which was a donation from the Boy Scouts in 1985. You can clearly see the two trees, the rock and the little structure.

Demon was parked right up from where that White SUV sits.  And yes, this area does have out houses, though more modern ones now. This may have been a campground in 1985, but now it closes at sundown.

This area was very hard to find, but it too was shot in Franklin Canyon. This road above was the only area that was similar to the area where the greasers were killed – and the infamous "you talking to me?" line was delivered from Roy. This was also the area where Jason killed the hitchhiker in Friday the 13th: Part IV.

And of course, while down in Franklin Canyon I saw one of those damn coyotes that were killing Ethel's chickens! He was hanging out where the greasers were probably killed.

  2. ^Agreed.^
Is there not much to see in the trailer park area? Just a parking lot?

    1. It was pure movie magic. It was not a trailer park. It may have been a campground at one time, but it is a very small area. Where Demon's truck was parked is sort of a parking area, and then there's a trail that goes around a small pond. Where the outhouses were at in the film, there are bathrooms now - made of brick. The structure with the small roof by the trailer park sign is a fake well. The road where the blue truck drives and turns into the trailer park is the very same road that Andy and Opie Griffith walked in the intro to the Andy griffith Show - though it was dirt back then. About 1/8th mile down is the road used in F13 The Final Chapter, where the teens drive and the hitcher is killed.

  3. Isn't is amazing how Parts 4 and 5 had scenes shot very close to another? This proves that Pinehurst was close to the Jarvis House. :D

  4. How did you find this? Did you know or did yo stumble on it?

    1. Both. Someone told me that the trailer park scene was shot near where the lake kills from TFC was shot. Immediately I made the connection where it was shot, and then on a hunch I walked around the reservoir and noticed saw grass like in the movie. Took very little time to find the actual places Tina and Eddie's deaths were shot as they are right on the main trail around the lake.

  5. Mad respect for these photos bro. They're so cool. Must say it seems like if you're a cinephile as I am of any genre (especially retro horror) that there is ALWAYS something to try to find on the weekends "film shot-related" whenever one has free time to do so.

    1. I was really trying hard to find these locations. I remember JR Dixon telling me it was "Off of Mulholland" where "other parts of the movie were shot."

So, close to where the diner scene is shot, there's a seasonal river/creek with a similar landscape. I figure it had to be the area... but it was bone dry (drought).

But then I found the dirving/lake kill scene locations from The Final Chapter (this same place) and someone pointed out that the "Heavenly Pond" area was used in ANB... and then I remembered how the landscape around the lake looked... just like where Tina and Eddie died. And drove there, and as soon as I walked down the trail I found the area. It's like right off the road.

They must have had to block that entire area with how racey the shooting of that scene was. I also take it that on the same day/night, they shot the trailer park scene. Which is right next to the area where they died - and quite possibly the greaser's death scene which is the same road.

    2. Hey dude thanks so much for finding these locations. I'm actually planning a trip with a couple fools to drive to all these locations one weekend and take some pics and some video too. I've always had lots of respect for Part 5 and how different it was from the rest of the series. I gotta make this happen because I know these locations don't stand forever. Thanks bro.

  6. Pinehurst was actually shot at a private home in Camarillo, CA (www.ranchorosita.com)

    1. I am aware - I have been there. This location was shot far away from Camarillo. Pinehurst was shot at RR, the cafe was shot off of Mulholland, and these scenes were shot off of Mulholland as well in Franklin Canyon. JR Dixon has confirmed this.

  7. Excellent work. It's difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the cemetery and hitchhiker spot from TFC--I'm guessing Lake Drive? Were you able to nail down these precise spots?

    1. I didn't really compare shots, but it was shot on the road around that lake. The hitchiker spot was near a fork. It's been a while since I've been over there. It's a relatively small area, so I am guessing if I took time to compare trees and such I could find the spots.
