Horror movie review Thursday: Hard To Die (1990)

While doing the inventory for a lingerie outlet in a high rise office building, five attractive women are terrorized by a series of bizarre killings. They suspect that the strange janitor, who witnessed another series of killings years back, is at the bottom of the whole thing. Little do they know the real horror that they face in the end.

Wow, where do you start with a movie like this? This movie had everything that the Slumber Party/Sorority House Massacre series had, and then some. Gratuitous shower scenes, scantily-clad big-breasted women, really cheesy and cheap deaths, Orville Ketchum and dumb cops. Gail Harris, who also was the leading girl in Sorority House Massacre II comes back, not to reprise her role, but to play a different character. She is hotter than ever, and really carried the movie as much as a b-movie star can. The movie would have been utter shit w/o Orville Ketchum, the girls and the tie in to SHM 2.

Let's face it, the movie content-wise was pretty awful. Bad acting, bad writing, bad directing, cheap special effects, and just down-right cheesy. The movie starts off showing a very high skyscraper, but during the movie turns into a 20 story concrete high-rise. I was also a bit bummed that Melissa Anne Moore's character died really early on. Bummer. The ending, really was funny, but a bit TOO corny. Orville gets the girl, and lives happily ever after? C'mon! Too bad they didn't make anymore of these movies!

This is a movie that is so bad that it's great. Boobs, blood, Orville Ketchum and a secluded building. The movie is supposed to bean unofficial sequel to Sorority House Massacre II, and really is, but when Ketchum is telling the girls about the SHM, as a back story, he mentions the happenings of Slumber Party Massacre. To top that off, when he mentions the names of the characters he gets them all wrong. I am not sure what was up with that, or if it was just thrown in for humor, but it was really forgettable. Again, the mighty Orville Ketchum takes an amazing amount of life-threatening damage and lives. Knife wounds, stabbings, choking, and a few hundred automatic rifle rounds couldn't keep him down. I would seriously recommend this to any fan of the SPM/SHM/CLM fans, and even fans of overall funny slasher films. I loved it.
