I am not a fan of the remake of Friday the 13th, or Jason's look in that movie. But this is undeniably one of the best remake busts out there bar-none. Here's a neat interview with Mr. Jason 2009 himself from Next Movie where he speaks about his upcoming film Gangster Squad where he works alongside Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling-- sorta. I suspect that his role in Goon Squad is small and this interview was poking fun at that.

Actor/comedian/goon-for-hire Derek Mears is a student of history, a man who clearly respects the goons who came before him while looking at himself as a role model for a new generation of goons being ushered in. His dedication shines through in the new shoot-em-up "Gangster Squad," in which Mears appears opposite Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling in the vital role of "Bridge Goon."

Friday The 13th 2010: My Wish List

So, with Friday The 13th 2009 being such a great success we are being (blessed) with another installment-- probably in 3-D and if the rumors are correct without Derek Mears. Although Brad Fuller has said Mears will indeed come back, you never know. A couple months back some rumors surfaced that the chode Tim Sylvia will be donning the mask for the sequel and I have to say that would be a fucking mistake. Not only does his body look out of shape and portly, but he just does not have the body of Jason Voorhees.

Another rumor floating around is that the opening sequence will take place in the Winter, which has been something a good amount of fans has wanted for some time now. I'm on the fence about it as long as it's done right, it may work. I mean, Camp Crystal Lake supposed to be in the Northeast USA, which is infamous for it's snow so it makes sense.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. made it official today. Friday the 13th Part 2, a sequel to this year's Friday the 13th, is slated to hit on August 13, 2010.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form tipped us off back in June right here, that if all goes according to plan, that was the date they were looking at. Fuller stresses to us, however, that the sequel still does not have a greenlight.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will return to write. And Derek Mears will absolutely be back to reprise his role as Jason Voorhees, contrary to the many wild rumors running around on the web.

Why all the hate for remakes?

It's been bothering me lately and really is one of the main reasons that I no longer visit a lot of forums that I used to-- the pointless remakes and the pointless debates that surround them. I will be the first to admit that there's never any reason for any remake. When a franchise takes a shit- and most of them have- they should just put the nail in the coffin and move on. However, I will say that a remake is no worse than a sequel and generally they are pretty much one in the same. Case and point The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003; it was not a bad remake regardless of what some people say. Some people refuse to like it solely because it is indeed a remake and would rather give props to the infamously bad The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. So, why hate TCM 2003? It followed the same exact formula as the original TCM as well as all of it's sequels- hell, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III and TCM: The Next Generation were pretty much remakes/reboots themselves.

Looks pretty freaking creepy if you ask me. Definitely not the best young Jason look, but he looks like a Primordial Dwarf in a way. I dunno, just creeps me out.

The Weinstein Company went Nazi on YouTube and had every and all H2 trailers removed, however here is a link to one hosted on a foreign server. Still, I think this one looks more promising than the remake, and hopefully it is better. People are still tripping over the fact there will/may be a maskless Myers in this film and that's sort of funny. I do understand the iconicness of the white mask, but at the same time it has been said that he will get another mak by the end of the film so... who gives a fuck? Halloween had an unmasked Myers where his face was shown and this will be no different in that aspect fo fucking get over it already.

Prototype finished!

I posted the sculpture a week or so ago, but here he is all done. This is hands-down the BEST remake one so far and ranks in the top 10 of Jason busts. If you want one contact the maker at monster_asylum@live.com. I'm not sure if this is limited, but it's well worth the price of $400!

Friday The 13th 2009, can it fit into the old timeline?

This is a debate that seems to have fans very passionately taking one side or the other. Some feel that Friday The 13th 2009 can easily be easily be inserted into the old time line and others feel that doing so would erase too many facts and too much history already established. Some people have already drawn up their own timlines which has the new film stuck somwhere in the old time line.

There's a new director on board the remake of The Gate and it's a perfect fit. According to Production Weekly, Alex Winter (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure & Bogus Journey) is tackling the redo of the hellish 1987 creature feature. Furthermore, he's doing it in 3-D.

Winter's been juggling an acting, writing and directing career for years since his "Bill" days. In '93 he helmed the FX-heavy comedy Freaked (a fave of mine) and Fever in '99. Recently he's been directing episodes of Ben 10 for the Cartoon Network. Winter's sensibilities seem ideal for The Gate's tale of three kids who open a portal to hell in their backyard.

Stephen Dorff starred in the original film directed by Tibor Takács.

Randall Cook was once attached to the redo, but as he told us in September, he was not pleased with the script and backed off the project.

How did you end up landing such a monumental role in the upcoming Friday the 13th remake?
The producers asked a lot of different industry professionals who they thought would make a good new Jason Voorhees and my name kept popping up. They called me in to be interviewed and I got the part. I am extremely lucky.

Friday The 13th remake soapbox.

I really fucking hate the fact that people have associated Jason with a machete as his signature weapon. Not only is a machete whimpy, weak and notoriously dull, but the only way to make a machete intimidating is to make it look all silly- like a Katana. Most of the publicity photos of the remake has Jason with a machete which sort of frustrates me. Until late (as in Freddy vs Jason) Jason never used a machete much at all, and basically only used one because it was handy. I know I am over analyzing this, but is sort of bothers me that people fele the need to associate Jason with a signature weapon... Grrr

Rob Zombies H2

So, first Rob Zombie says he will never do a remake, and then he signs on to do the Halloween remake- although he never called it a remake. He always suggested it was a reimagining, which to me is like putting a dick in our mouth and saying you don't suck. Then he later said he would absolutely never do a sequel to the movie, and here we are... it was just announced that Rob will direct a sequel to the REMAKE Halloween II.

Here's the official Friday The 13th remake trailer, looks promising. I love the human, running, stalking, realistic Jason... very oldschool trailer, old school Jason, I saw a few homages (crashing through the window), etc. The count (i.e. 1,2,3,etc) just like the first two movies and of course a very old school style logo and a scene where Jason was wearing the sack and not the hockey mask like in Part 2... sweet.
