Goodbye, Deadpit.com

I know that I neglect this blog greatly, sometimes. I do try and update when I can. But with the awful fate of the Friday the 13th franchise, and horror movies being just complete shit of late, it's really hard to be inspired to write anything.

Goodbye, Wes.

 

Even though Wes Craven has made some really bad movies, he still stands way up there with some of the greatest horror flicks of the 70s and 80s. He will always be one of my heros - rest in peace, Wes Craven.

Franchise Loses Another Actor

Irwin Keyes, known for being such a sweetheart guy passed away today at age 63. While he did not have a large role in Friday the 13th (1980), he was very well known at franchise gatherings and conventions - and known for his role in the Rob Zombie shit flick House of 1,000 Corpses.

Rest in peace, Irwin.

Keyes died of acromegaly, a rare pituitary gland disorder, his manager Phil Brock confirmed to EW. He had been in a rehabilitation center for the past few months. - Entertainment Weekly

Rest in Peace, Betsy!

I just wanted to take a minute and send my condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Betsy Palmer - a woman who all of us Friday the 13th fans had looked up to as "mommy" for over thirty years. You will be missed, and you will always be Mrs. Voorhees to us. 

Rest In Piece, Richard

Something compelled me to look up Richard Brooker today and I noticed that not long ago - April 8 - he passed away. I have to say that it was a sad day for myself, being a huge fan of the Jason Voorhees character that he pretty much invented in Part III.

Brooker was pretty much forced to invent Jason himself, when director Steve Miner told Brooker that Jason had no motivation.

RIP Richard Brooker

Yesterday when I saw the news, I couldn't rightfully write anything about it. I figured that I would give him a day of silence out of respect. Growing up and watching Friday the 13th: Part III on a rented VCR while living on a pig farm in rural South Carolina is among my fondest childhood memories. We had to have watched this film 6 times over the course of the weekend. One viewing I decided to watch the credits and I saw Richard Brooker as Jason in the credits. That name stuck with me because Jason literally scared the hell out of my 9 year old ass. It also made me deathly afraid of the old barn out back!

I remember being in middle school and my friend brought in some issues of Fangoria. One of them had a write-up about the Jasons and had a photo of Richard Brooker and I finally put a face to this name and read the entire article. 

When the internet was in gear, I learned the Brooker had a website and could easily be contacted. So, I chose to buy an autographed photo of him and to this day it was a very special item in my collections. Later on in life I had the chance to attend a small convention that Brooker attended and got to meet the man. That meeting wasn't amazing  since my time with him was merely seconds and he seemed rushed. But it did make me relive my childhood memories of Friday the 13th: Part III.

Death is always a sad thing, but we all do die and so do horror icons. My condolences to his family and those who were closest to him. Everyone knows what a huge fan I am of Part III and Brooker and needless to say, this news really hit me hard.

Clem David Wiechman (David Wiley), who's known to Friday the 13th fans as the resident prophet of doom Abel in Friday the 13th: Part III had a long career in show business, but is more known as a recording engineer to many stars including Elvis Presley. A lot of times I have seen John Sherrod's death noted as a stunt accident on set. However, I did find out that it was not true. John Sherrod, stuntman and stunt coordinator in Friday The 13th III, IV and V, was killed in an automobile accident.

Lou Perryman murdered-- sad, sad news.
