Wayne, You're an Asshole...

from: Devour; Sony Entertainment

Martin Cummins (no relation to Juliette; Part VIII), Jason Takes Manhattan's resident AV nerd, has since become a cult heartthrob to teens and women alike starring in TV shows like Dark Angle, Kyle XY, V and Eureka.  Long gone is his bob haircut (that makes him look oddly familiar to Ruben Farr, Crispin Glover's alter ego). I guess he has a pretty legit fan club, too!

Portuguese VHS Covers

from: http://forum.cinemaemcena.com.br
Here's a collection of VHS clamshells from sinemamkena, from what I presume to be Brazil since the language is Portuguese. One of the things I did dig about the Paramount releases is that they took the liberty of teasing the hell out of us fans by including scenes cut from the movies on the back of the tapes.

Todd Caldecott: Nutritionist, Author... Jason Victim!

Todd Shaffer aka Todd Caldecott
from: www.toddcaldecott.com

Todd Caldecott (Friday the 13th: Part VIII) (credited as Todd Shaffer) is now an author of at least three critically acclaimed books on nutrition and a Medical Nutritionist in Canada. Who would have thought the care-free prankster Jim from Jason Takes Manhattan had it in him!

Saffron, Where Art Thou

from: SaffronHenderson.com
Saffron Henderson (Friday the 13th: part VIII) played my favorite character in the movie and was a movie crush for me for a very long time. She had a role in the Fly II about the same time Jason Takes Manhattan came out. Since then she has become a very popular voice-over actress doing films such as Dragon Ballz, X-Men (TV), Robocop (TV) and many video games. But not a lot of people know that she is indeed a singer (her music can be found on her website) and comes from a family of singers.

Martin Cummins... You're An Asshole

Martin Cummins (Friday the 13th: Part VIII) gets into an anti-abortion debate with  Karen Cambpell on a Canadian TV show Pilot 1.  The crowd seems to side with Karen, who is pro-choice.

I do think Martin makes some valid points, though.

Remembering the unknown Jasons Part 2

Read part 1

Tom Savini:
Some people really find it odd that Tom Savini donned the Jason attire for (at least) a scene in Friday The 13th: Part IV. Tom Savini is known for performing the intricate kills in the movies that he does special effects for, as seen in behind-the-scene footage for movies like Maniac and The Prowler. Here's Savini in the Jason suit killing the fat hitchiker.

DVD still of the week: Jason Takes Manhattan

So, back to this atrocity of a movie- one more screen capture from the cut footage of the film. Here's Timothy Burr Mirkovich (Young Jason) crawling out of Jason's mouth while he's drowning in sewage. Some people have wondered how Young Jason got into the sewer and how Jason transformed into Young Jason. Well, he did not transform- Young Jason crawled out of his mouth and Jason disintegrated-- sounds better, right?

Now I can see why they opted with the edit where it looks like that Jason turned into Young Jason over this abomination!

DVD stills of the week: Jason Takes Manhattan Deluxe Edition

For those who did not get the Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan Deluxe Editions, here are some screen captures from the extras. The special features included a "making of..." documentary as well as cut scenes and a gag reel.

Contact information: Barbara Bingham

I get a LOT of emails about contact information for certain stars. So, I reckon every now and then I should put up someone who I have had success with who's contact information is widely known (i.e. not a private contact who wishes not to be bothered).

I had a success with Barbara a few years ago (12-27-06), but as far as I know she still gets her mail from this address. Sometimes it gets forwarded a bit and can take a whole, but it works.

Three time's a charm.

Back in 1988 Paramount Pictures were producing a film called Jason Takes Manhattan. With a micro-budget compared to the movies before it, Jason Takes Manhattan was more or less Jason Takes The Class Of 1988 because of huge budgetary restraints which also pretty much snuffed out the special make-up effects department.
The publicity department did not have an easy time either-- they had a presumably great poster art for the movie and it was funny and something everyone would notice. The only problem is that it was too noticeable with a bloody knife ripping through an "I love NY" banner. Censors did not like this and demanded that it be toned down and the blood was removed from the knife. The only problem now is that the New York State Department of Tourism did not like it, in fact it was a copyrighted image that Paramount Pictures could not use without their consent. Of course, since they could never get the rights to use this as a poster for a horror movie we get the ever-boring Jason silhouette over the New York City skyline.

In the end, the poster art was as unimaginative and low-rent as the movie itself. Jason Takes Manhattan raked in a meager $14.3 million in it's theatrical run, the lowest box office turnout of any of the Friday The 13th films. Some fans who love this movie claim it was the horrible marketing, however it may have very well been the product
