Rest In Piece, Richard

Something compelled me to look up Richard Brooker today and I noticed that not long ago - April 8 - he passed away. I have to say that it was a sad day for myself, being a huge fan of the Jason Voorhees character that he pretty much invented in Part III.

Brooker was pretty much forced to invent Jason himself, when director Steve Miner told Brooker that Jason had no motivation.

Here's a really old photo of Brooker and his horse.

Part III (Behind the Scenes)

From: www.facebook.com/CrashCreations
I feel kind of lame horking photos from Crash's Facebook page, but here's another - the last one.  I just had to post this, Part III being my favorite. I do remember in the Part III commentary on the Crystal Lake to Manhattan box set, where Richard Brooker talks about walking out of the cabin during 'action' on a live set, smoking a pipe - and how everyone laughed except for Steve Miner.

This photo has to be the best behind the scenes shot of Part III that I have seen!

Some Part III Behind the Scenes Photos

Some more photos from the collection of Crash. I, of course, am a huge fan of Part III and really dig the above photo of director Steve Miner standing over a seemingly defeated Jason Voorhees.

Friday the 13th: Part III Locations; Crystal Lake Cafe & Cop Chase

For your Friday the 13th pleasure, here's another location from Friday the 13th: Part III. This has been on a few blogs, but I think the entire area is really neat. Harold & Edna's store was filmed in the same vicinity as the Green Valley store where Shelly and Vera met the bikers. Even though it's a ways away, it's in the next canyon over.

Part III Behind the Scenes Photos

These are some really cool photos from an unknown publication of Dana Kimmell and Paul Kratka in Friday the 13th Part III. If anyone knows of the publication these came from, post it in the comments.

Behind the Scenes; Friday the 13th: Part III

Here's a really cool behind the scenes shot of Dana Kimmell (Chris) in Friday the 13th: Part III. The photo looks like it may have been a photo from the alternate ending where she goes to the barn to find everyone dead after what seemed to be a bad dream, only to run back to the cabin to beet Jason face-to-face in the infamous beheading.

I only say this because she is dressed much like the other production photos we have seen.

At any rate, it's always really cool to find these behind the scenes photos.

Useless Information Wednesday

Fans of the original Red Dawn (1984) will remember Brad Savage as "Danny". However, not everyone may be aware that Brad Savage is indeed the younger brother of Friday the 13th: Part III's Tracie Savage (Debbie).

Like Tracie, Brad started acting through his agent mother, Judy Savage – who still runs The Savage Agency – and started acting as a youngster, making several television appearances. The Savage Agency was used to procure much of the cast of Friday the 13th: Part III. He landed the role as Danny in the 1984 film Red Dawn and ended up getting a nomination for the Young Artist Award as a supporting role in a feature film.

The Savage Agency, or Judy Savage, represents young talent trying to break it into the business. She has won multiple awards for her work as an agent.

Today, Brad has a son Keaton Savage who is currently an actor. He is represented by The Savage Agency.

Higgins Haven in Other Movies

We all know the cabin at Veluzat Movie Ranch simply as "Higgins Haven", which was the name it was given as it appeared in Friday the 13th: Part III (1982). The cabin was actually a set that was constructed for the production of Friday the 13th: Part III and was used many times after until it was finally burned down by some dumb fan trying to relive "Shelly's" scene in the movie.

The barn still makes appearances from time to time in movies and on television. Here are some other cameos the cabin made before it met its fate.

By the way, thanks to The Location Scout blog for these photos.

Part III Contact Sheets

These were recently listed on eBay, and the seller apparently has a lot of them. Some of them have some very awesome shots of cast and crew from behind the scenes - a must for any die-hard Part III mark!

Cathy LaBelle: Miss Florida 1977; Runner up Miss America 1978

We all recognize that face – it's none other than Friday The 13th: Part III star, Catherine Parks! Before she was involved in show business, she was Miss Tampa in 1976, Miss Florida in 1977, and then third runner-up in the 1978 Miss America pageant.

Jeffrey Rogers from Part III: Today

Thanks anon for this tip! I found him a while back, but never saw this video. For all of those wondering about him, he's still looking young.

Tracie Savage

Here's a great photo [too bad it's watermarked] of Tracie Savage from Friday the 13th: Part III at a fund raiser where she was one of the participant joggers. This was early 2000s.

Survive Poster for Unite Against Domestic Violence

This is sort of old news, but I really dig this poster depicting the final girls of Friday the 13th: Part I, II, III and IV. It's available from Fright Rags for $89.99. Those hardcore Friday the 13th collectors out there will love this-- and it's a good cause. All posters (limited to 175, 16 left in stock) are signed by all four final girls and 60% of proceeds go to charity.

Comic Books in Friday the 13th Part III

Brandon Middleton recently sent me a photo of the comic books seen behind Shelly in the store scene in Friday the 13th: Part III. I guess only real Friday the 13th geeks will appreciate this- such as myself. Shelly is also holding a Club International porno mag. Below are the comics; You Will Believe in Gosts by DC Comics, and   Master of Kung Fu by Marvel.

Richard Brooker In Memorium on Hell's Kitchen

Another great find from Brandon Middleton, this in memoriam at the end of Hell's Kitchen episode 7 from season 11 can be viewed here. Brooker was responsible for state-of-the-art remote cameras used in the show and I also believe he did directing on the show. Reglardless of what he has done, he was loved by the crew so much that they dedicated the show to him.

Chicks Love Vans...

A couple rare (and small resolution) promo shots of our Part III girls by Chris' beloved Dodge Ram van. The bottom one was sent to me by Brandon Middleton. I am not sure where I found the top-- I've had it for some time.

Behind the Scenes of Shelly (Friday the 13th: Part III)

Again, thanks to Brandon Middleton, I am posting this great photo of Larry Zerner in a photo that looks to be either a SFX test, or after his shot. It's definitely a shot that I have never seen before.

UPDATE:
A kind poster let me on to this photo and where it originated:
Actually, this is/was a filmed on-screen death for Shelly that was deleted as a request from the MPAA. If you notice in the pic, Shelly is on the porch, by the Kitchen entrance as he was on-screen in his final appearence when he bursts through the back door to seek help. That hand you are referring to is Jason's bloody hand coming back from around Shelly's chest. Up in the right hand corner is a bird's-eye-view of the TOP of Jason's hockey mask...See the nose? This is after he drags Shelly's body to the back door, from the barn to leave him for dead, then Jason, swiftly runs back to the barn. That is what the noises were that Chili hears before she opens the door to discover Shelly's next "prank". I know this because I have a finished "daily" copy for Friday Part 3 before they shipped it to the MPAA.
