God bless & be with him and his family. He seemed a kind, soft spoken & gentle soul. And yeah I wasn't his biggest fan but I do own some of his films in high definition. Also I felt that he made three or so notable genre classics/cult classics and like many of the old cats (Argento, Carpenter, Hooper & Romero before they all hacked out), he deserves credit. He also made some underrated cult films such as The People Under the Stairs and The Surpent & The Rainbow that I hope genre fans rediscover over the years.
The People Under the Stairs is a great flick.I seen a blu-ray version with some crazy artwork featuring all the main characters that looked like a watercolor painting.
