Ted Survived... Freddy Krueger

Ted is most well known for surviving Jason in Friday the 13th: Part II, but I guess it may come as a surprise to many that he also survived ole Freddy Krueger as well. Okay, maybe it wasn't in one of the movies, but the T.V. series Freddy's Nightmares count, doesn't it?

A big thanks to LairOfHorror.com for putting this put there. Take a look at the trailer for the Season 1, Episode 6 of Freddy's Nightmares.

Tremors (1990) Filming Locations

Opening Credits
Since the 1990 movie Tremors was set in Perfection, Nevada - which is a real place - people assumed that it was also filmed there and the nearby town Bisbee - in the movie it was Bixby. Since it was a Hollywood production, they shot most of the movie in the Owens Valley area of California.

Part III Behind the Scenes Photos

These are some really cool photos from an unknown publication of Dana Kimmell and Paul Kratka in Friday the 13th Part III. If anyone knows of the publication these came from, post it in the comments.

TedWhite.com: Up and Running!

New Ted White website is now up and running: www.TedWhite.com.  So far it seems there's a lot of great photos of his work, as well as autographed items for sale. Definitely check it out – certainly long overdue!

Motel Hell Filming Location

Motel Hell(o) as seen in the film.
The spanish hacienda at the Sable Ranch
Most of this film was shot at the Sable Movie Ranch in Santa Clarita, California which was very well known to host T.V. shows like MacGyver, The A-Team, and so on. The ranch house at Sable also hosted such horror movies like The Devil's Rejects and even Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (though the ranch house was located at another movie ranch when it was filmed).

The location of the actual Motel Hell(o) was filmed at the spanish hacienda at the movie ranch, which has been used in countless films and T.V. shows in the past. Some parts of the film were also shot in Moorpark, California.

1957 NoBeBoSco Patch

I guess this is something only true Friday the 13th geeks can appreciate. It's a Boy Scouts conference patch for Camp NoBeBoSco, also known as Camp Crystal Lake for 1957. As we all know is that 1957 was the year Jason drown while the camp counselors were off doing the naughty.

Maybe Mrs. Voorhees had it all wrong and the counselors were actually attending this conference? I guess we will never know the answers to that because all of the witnesses were brutally murdered in 1958!

More Friday the 13th: Part IV Filming Locations!

You can see the car drive past this building on the corner of Franklin Canyon &
Lake Drive. The house can be seen through the back window of the car.

I posted before on the Zaca Lake scenes filming location here, which is quite a ways away from the filming area where the driving/road scenes with the teens, and the lake kills were done. This area is in the area which is actually Beverly Hills, though quite a ways from the area commonly shown as Beverly Hills.

It's a protected area in the Santa Monica Mountains called Franklin Canyon. The lake is actually Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir, also called Myers Lake.

Young Adrienne King!

Here are a couple adverts from the very early 1960s of a very young and very excited Adrienne King. I find it cute that to this day that she is sporting that same (cute) hair style. I think these adverts are from around 1961. Enjoy.

From Beyond: Footloose & Friday the 13th: Part IV

Paramount's Footloose and Friday the 13th: Part IV advert has Jason killing Kevin Bacon, making him the only person to have been killed by Mrs. Voorhees AND Jason Voorhees, right? Well, maybe not! I do what to know how Footloose gets a PG rating, though.

It's actually fan art from From Beyond!

Some BTS Amy Steel Photos!

I came across these on Amy Steel's Facebook page, and even though I have seen a couple before, I am sure they have been circulated around on other Friday the 13th-related blogs and such. I still think they are awesome and want to share these awesome shots!

River's Edge (1986) Shooting Locations [UPDATED]

River's Edge is without a doubt one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. I took some time and searched out the areas in Tujunga, California where it was mostly filmed. However, the river scenes were actually shot in Carmichael, California – those are included in the update (scroll to the bottom).

Matt's home on Redmont - still looks pretty similar.

Like They Did To That Piggo Over At That Crazy Farm!

©Louis Lazzara
Here are a couple photos that Joe Cook posted on his group Cook's Horror Central, from the hands of special effects artist Louis Lazzara who worked on multiple Friday the 13th films (III & V) as well as multiple Nightmare on Elm Street (1, 5, Freddy's Dead, Freddy's Nightmares) films as well as an extensive resume including Halloween H20, Teen Wolf Too and The Addams Family.

Really Cool Night Of The Living Dead (1990) Photo

William Butler and John Iwanonkiw rehearse a scene in Night of the Living Dead
This photo came from the Facebook page of John Iwanonkiw, and is a behind the scenes shot of he and William Butler rehearsing the scene where Butler's character dies in an explosion.  Iwanonkiw was portraying a zombie in the film, and has become a serious actor and was (and still is) a native resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

First Jason - Jason is Watching (Video)

I will clarify that I am not a fan of Ari's music – not my style – but I will say that I love that Ari has engaged the fans and embraced them (even if it's for profit) completely. Even though he has only a few seconds of infamy, he has become a fan favorite.

With that being said, here's a really cool re-do of the video done my little brother. Check it out.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014) Rema... I mean "meta" (LOL)

This movie was bound to have a modernized version made, and probably one of the last good slasher films out there that could handle an update. Years back the Gray brothers of the Guts and Gory fame talked about lensing a remake of this film, and apparently it fell through.

UGH! A Cheerleader Camp Sequel?

This may sound bitter, but I am so tired of these revival films exploiting old franchises and movies to capture the old audience with a new, shitty, film using the name for sales. We see this all the time and 95% of the time the movies are unwatchable.

Friday the 13th: Part V (Tina & Eddie's Death) Possible Filming Location

*UPDATE*
Turns out this was not the area the scenes were filmed – albeit still off of Mulholland. Please click this link for an updated entry with the verified locations.

A scene from the movie.
All of the water grass has long died from no water.
Friday the 13th: Part V has been probably one of the hardest locations to find. Just recently we found the location of the house and the cafe, but the areas where Tina and Eddie were killed a well as the trailer park are still elusive.

I wasn't very familiar with the area until recently, and way back in the day (2008?) when I found John Robert Dixon on his employer's site and emailed him he told me that his death scene was shot "off of Mulholland somewhere" and "I think Malibu Creek was the name".

Lawrence Monoson in Teen Set Magazine

Lawrence Monoson (Teddy) from Friday the 13th: Part IV hasn't shied away from saying some pretty douchey things about his role as Teddy in the movie, calling it many things including low-taste, worse-than-B-movie-quality and a shameful movie.

Smoke & Mirrors: The Story of Tom Savini

https://www.facebook.com/smokeandmirrorstomsavini
Above is a great candid photo of Tom Savini during his Vietnam War service. It's from an upcoming documentary on his lift aptly titled Smoke & Mirrors, directed by Jason Baker.

Behind the Scenes: Friday the 13th (1980)

Here's a really hi-res shot of Mark Nelson (Ned) from Friday the 13th (1980) where you can get a good look at his special make-up effects applied by the master Tom Savini. This definitely wasn't Savini's crowning moment in horror, but it is still an iconic moment nonetheless.

Friday the 13th: Part IV Filming Location - Zaca Lake

https://www.flickr.com/photos/qrux
I haven't been able to make it to Zaca Lake – the shooting location for some of the lake scenes in Friday the 13th: Part IV – since it's quite far away in Santa Barbara County, so here are some shots of the probable shooting areas of the film.

Looks like Marta Kober is in trouble again!

Marta was picked up in Selma, Oregon for an outstanding warrant – and $4,000 bond – not too long ago. I am trying to find out what the warrant was for, but there's no indication anywhere.

Screen Test With Juliette Cummins

Here's a neat little find; a screen test with actor Marc Copage in an acting workshop the two had taken together. Copage later stated that he used this to prepare for auditions for daytime soap operas.

As always, Juliette looks marvelous.

Friday the 13th: Part V's Carol Locatell in Coffy (1973)

Coffy is a movie directed by Jack Hill in 1973, starring Pam Grier and Sid Haig and filmed in Chatsworth, California. Carol Locatell (Ethel) from Friday the 13th: Part V has a part in the movie as Priscilla and was credited as Carol Lawson.

She does a terrific job in her role in Coffy, and you get to see that Carol was actually a pretty cute woman under all of that dirt and grime of Ethel Hubbard!

@0:53, we get to see a little Ethel Hubbard come out of Priscilla!

Behind the Scenes; Friday the 13th: Part III

Here's a really cool behind the scenes shot of Dana Kimmell (Chris) in Friday the 13th: Part III. The photo looks like it may have been a photo from the alternate ending where she goes to the barn to find everyone dead after what seemed to be a bad dream, only to run back to the cabin to beet Jason face-to-face in the infamous beheading.

I only say this because she is dressed much like the other production photos we have seen.

At any rate, it's always really cool to find these behind the scenes photos.

Amy Steel in The Women of San Quentin (1983)

Who says women don't look good in uniform? This is from the 1983 TV movie The Women of San Quentin, with Amy as Liz Larson. Her role wasn't very large, but it was nice seeing her on TV!

What sucks is that her agent at the time thought roles like this were better for her career than appearing in Friday the 13th: Part III, as what was initially wanted by producers of the franchise.

Sorority House Massacre I & II: Filming Locations

The sorority house as seen in the film: Sorority House Massacre
How the house looks now.
Living in Los Angeles I get to see a lot of filming locations for my favorite movies. Realistically, after seeing these locations it actually takes away a lot of the impact the movie had. With movie magic, a lot of these places were shot to seem a lot more secluded than they actually were.

Ted White Homage #73824753

Ted White (far right) with stuntmen Leroy Johnson and Cliff Lyons in the
1959 film The Horse Soldiers
Like him or hate him – and if you hate this man, then you suck – Ted White is an industry icon, working alongside the most influential/legendary names in movie history. He amassed one of the most impressive resumes for a stuntman in his era and he worked when stuntmen did a lot of very dangerous stunts without any union backing for safety regulations.

Tom Morga's Stick-On Mustache: Commando (1985)

Friday the 13th stunt team of John Sherrod, Tom Morga, Johnny Hocks and Dick Warlock worked on this classic Arnold Schwarzenegger film Commando from 1985.

Here is an amazing shot of Tom Morga with a really bad stick-on moustache. Looks like the make-up effects team for Commando was as bad as the team for A New Beginning.

Night of the Demons (1988): Filming Locations

The old man's house in the beginning of the film.
This is how that house looks now. It was long abandon, but is now being
refurbished and is for sale/lease. It's on Menlo Avenue at 29th.
Kevin S. Tenney's Night of the Demons (1988) was shot pretty much entirely in one area of the Historic Menlo/29th District in Central Los Angeles. The Old Man's home seen in the beginning and the end of the movie is on the corner of Menlo Avenue and 29th Street.

Oh My Ghana!

Even though the art on these photos is laughable at best, I have to really give respect to the foreign market for attempting to change it up and actually try and do something creative.

The Gillets: Bloody Social?

I think all of us is pretty aware of F. Warrington Gillette's (maybe, maybe not) film Bloody Social was about his mother allegedly killing his father, and all for money. I got bored and looked them up and it turns out that the Gillet (how his last name is actually spelled) family was a pretty well known family in Palm Beach, Florida.

His mother was a very well known socialite, very active in the arts and headed many benefits. His father, Francis Warrington Gillet, Jr., also mingled with politicians, raced horses (Explains Warrington, III's love of horses!), and kept close ties with very wealthy people.

People Under the Stairs: Filming Location

The house in the film People Under the Stairs
How the house looks today
The house used as the main location in the 1991, Wes Craven film The People Under the Stairs is located in central Los Angeles near the Historical Adams District on Harvard Avenue. Most of the interiors were actually shot on a set, making the home look a lot larger than it really is.

Directly across from this home is the home used in the film Sorority House Massacre II (which is abandon). In that film the Red Herring Orville Ketchum lived across the street, in this home. At the end of this film – when the residents gather in the street – the Sorority House Massacre II house can be seen.

Useless Information Wednesday

Fans of the original Red Dawn (1984) will remember Brad Savage as "Danny". However, not everyone may be aware that Brad Savage is indeed the younger brother of Friday the 13th: Part III's Tracie Savage (Debbie).

Like Tracie, Brad started acting through his agent mother, Judy Savage – who still runs The Savage Agency – and started acting as a youngster, making several television appearances. The Savage Agency was used to procure much of the cast of Friday the 13th: Part III. He landed the role as Danny in the 1984 film Red Dawn and ended up getting a nomination for the Young Artist Award as a supporting role in a feature film.

The Savage Agency, or Judy Savage, represents young talent trying to break it into the business. She has won multiple awards for her work as an agent.

Today, Brad has a son Keaton Savage who is currently an actor. He is represented by The Savage Agency.

Friday the 13th: Part II - Behind the Scenes

Photo from Cliff Cudney's Facebook
A lot of these photos from this sequence have been popping up here and there, but here is one that we haven't seen before. It's of stunt coordinator extraordinaire Cliff Cudney and his talent Steve Dash – better known as Jason Voorhees.

Higgins Haven in Other Movies

We all know the cabin at Veluzat Movie Ranch simply as "Higgins Haven", which was the name it was given as it appeared in Friday the 13th: Part III (1982). The cabin was actually a set that was constructed for the production of Friday the 13th: Part III and was used many times after until it was finally burned down by some dumb fan trying to relive "Shelly's" scene in the movie.

The barn still makes appearances from time to time in movies and on television. Here are some other cameos the cabin made before it met its fate.

By the way, thanks to The Location Scout blog for these photos.

The Devil's Rejects Filming Locations(s)

Even though Rob Zombie has called the Friday the 13th franchise "stupid", I saw a lot of (maybe) unintentional homages throughout his 2005 movie The Devil's Rejects. The most obvious is Tiny's outfit in the beginning of the movie was spot on to Jason's in Friday the 13th: Part II.

Though, The Devil's Rejects was set in Texas, is was shot in the lower Mojave desert and places more south like Santa Clarita. Most of the movie was shot at the Sable Movie Ranch on Sand Canyon Road, right in the middle of Santa Clarita, California. Scenes like the "chicken fucker", Charlie Altamont's place, the Firefly house, and many more scenes. Here are some locations off of that movie ranch that reached as far up as Lancaster, California.

"Buck's Grab n' Go" where Spaulding pulled into when his truck ran out of gas.
Rio Groceries is an actual store right outside of Acton, California.
Rio Groceries was used in the movie (mostly exterior shots), and is an actual store right on Soledad Canyon Road. It'a about 2 miles before the Acton KOA Campground. Even though the store has changed a little bit and was dressed up for the movie, it still remains pretty similar and still functioning.

What's good for the goose...

I am not trying to beat a dead horse here, because quite frankly the whole Gillette vs. Dash confrontation of a decade ago is a tired, stupid situation. At one time I sided with Steve Dash – and still feel his complaints back then had merit – but at the same time, I also see a lot of other genre actors signing photos that may not depict them. Like, I have seen C.J. Graham sign photos of Dan Bradley, Tony Moran sign photos of other people who played Michael Myers in Halloween, and so on.

Part III Contact Sheets

These were recently listed on eBay, and the seller apparently has a lot of them. Some of them have some very awesome shots of cast and crew from behind the scenes - a must for any die-hard Part III mark!

Cathy LaBelle: Miss Florida 1977; Runner up Miss America 1978

We all recognize that face – it's none other than Friday The 13th: Part III star, Catherine Parks! Before she was involved in show business, she was Miss Tampa in 1976, Miss Florida in 1977, and then third runner-up in the 1978 Miss America pageant.

Robbi Morgan as Curly McDimple, 1967 - 1969

Long before Robbi Morgan portrayed the impossible-to-dislike Annie in Friday the 13th (1980), she starred as a Shirley Temple rip-off Curly McDimple on Broadway in a musical with the same name. Apparently the show ran a few years with Robbi as Curly McDimple.
