Friday the 13th (1980) Behind the Scenes Photo

From: Friday the 13th the Fan's Page Facebook
Here's a pretty rare behind-the-scenes shot of Tom Savini and his assistant Taso Stavrakis moulding the head of Betsy Palmer (Mrs. Voorhees) for her iconic beheading scene in Friday the 13th (1980). Both Savini and Stavrakis undertook the duties of special make-up effects as well as actually playing the killer Mrs. Voorhees in scenes where Betsy Palmer's likeness was not exposed. Savini and Stavrakis played Alice and Mrs' Voorhees in the beheading scene.

  1. Aww whoa, VERY cool! I never saw a color picture of her molding, only the old black & white stuff.

Too cool! And yeah Taso was the feet & stand stand in for "Mrs. Voorhees" in most of the scenes. He WAS gonna be the adult Jason in Part 2 but it is rumored that Savini the prick (whom we all know hated the idea of an adult, human Jason alive & well getting by, killing on land out of the lake) told him not to go to Connecticut to film it.

He now regrets it though, he states. :(

  2. Wow, I had no idea Taso nearly played Jason. Very cool info Brandon. He definitely should've listened to his gut and not Savini. lol

  3. Oh so nice to see ya again Bloody! I haven't see ya much on Skype. But that's cool; once I get some more new minutes on my cellphone we all privately gotta start talkin' on here hah hah. :) I mean its all cool 'n respectful to talk on here but sometimes (even with my speed typing abilities) I don't feel like always making a long post. Also in the coming weeks I'll be VERY busy with personal business matters and I won't online for days at a time.

And yeah indeed, Taso talked about it in the hardcover Crystal Lake Memories book. Anyway, have you pre-ordered your blu ray set of the documentary yet? There's only so many days left with the fourth bonus disc offer, by the way :) PEACE!

  4. Amusingly enough, I actually own the CLM book, but don't recall reading that bit of info in it lol. It's hell to get old, I guess. Some stuff you absorb and it never leaves you. Other stuff, not so much.

Haven't ordered the Blu yet - I need to get on that. Got a birthday coming up soon, so maybe I'll treat myself to that.

And no worries man - I've been crazy busy myself. Haven't had much time to go online lately. My wife was in a car accident nearly 2 weeks ago, so things have been kinda all over the place for me. She's ok, but the hassle involved after the fact has been a nightmare. We're managing though. Hope you're doing good!

  5. Ha hah its all cool William my good man, you're of a solid age just as me. :)
*winks* And yeah I believe its in the hardcover edition as well as the kindle/Amazon version too. And yeah you need to pre-order it with your PayPal soon---I feel that bonus disc, as well as to have it ship out earlier is WELL worth it in my eyes. :)

And yeah same here! Actually within the next three weeks starting tomorrow afternoon, I am having many converance calls with my patent lawyer (I'm a patent & inventor man myself in case I forgot to tell you) and its all fine! You can give me your e-mail later on; And whoa, prayers tonight for your dearest wife my good man!! I was saddened t read that! I hope & pray that she is alright. I have Faith and I feel she'll do fine but I hope that she is taking it easy for a while.

    Peace be with you.

  8. Hi this is David, author of the upcoming book On Location in Blairstown: The Making of Friday the 13th. Tom wrote the foreword for my book.

Actually, I was the first one to publish that story about Taso being offered the role of Jason in my first book.

    Thank you. DG.
