Part III Bad Press

As we all know the Friday the 13th films really did not get the positive support by the press as Halloween had received. Then there was the fact that Part III really pissed off a lot of the media reviewers for its redundancy and flat atmosphere due to director Steve Miner having to direct around a 3-D Director of Photography and a 3-D cinematographer. I do love this film and really think the press took this film way too seriously. I think their reviews and commentary are null and void.

  1. Wow, I scanned over a lot of that and then I stooped. "A movie made be sickies for sickies" and then it spoils all of the death set pieces, which back then would only make me wanna go see it all the more?

I agree I love the film & I feel the retro press took it all WAY too seriously.

Speaking of something like this: In honor of all things retro & in honor of notable film critic Roger Ebert passing away you can still find his The Final Chapter review as well as him & Gene's Part V one on there too. It would make for a nice posting on here, just as a suggestion.

Of course he (is there any doubt, now?) tears the film a new cinematic asshole, but alas these films are retro slasher films, an they're all "seemingly critic-proof" & what not, ect. Have fun!!! This is a great find, as per always.

    1. Yeah, it seemed like journalists felt they were on such a high horse in those days. But really, they were nothing but tabloid reporters with suits and ties... writing about horror movies nonetheless.

  2. Fully agreed: I'm not sure why they took these things so overly seriously & indeed, many of them TOTALLY went about them the wrong way. Also, yeah I love the genre but I never fully understood - while sometimes fine entertainment & a great anxiety release in an oddball kitch way - why many genre journalists also took these al the wrong way. The increasingly douche-y, almost too hipster-style writing of Fangoria over its last two years that I read it back then also ruined it for me as well as other various online forums too.

    Great words, once again.

  3. It was the 80s the era of Tipper Gore and the pmrc. Shit like this doesn't shock me or make me mad. It was the Reagan era "holier than thou" 80s.
