Is 3-D horror making a come back?

In the 1980's a good handful of horror movies (mainly Part III's) were released in 3-D, maybe you recognize the names; Friday The 13th Part III, Jaws III, Amityville III? It seemed like the huge success of Friday The 13th Part III paved the way for these movies in hopes to capture the same success, for the most part it did not happen. Friday The 13th Part III up until recently was the highest grossing 3-D film of all time, only to be dethroned by Spy Kids 3-D. Although the 1980's gave a valiant effort the 3-D craze of the 1950's was not recaptured and seemed to die with a bunch of failures like Silent Madness and Parasite.




I remember reading that a Night Of The Living Dead remake was being shot on 3-D and for a while it was a movie that I was dying to see- needless to say it was only shown in a handful of theaters and at conventions. Rightfully so, the 3-D sucked and the movie was mediocre at best. Now recently with better 3-D technology and IMAX theaters are we going to see another 3-D film craze? It seems to be that way with the new My Bloody Valentine 3-D which was a success, a planned Piranha 3-D, Scar 3-D remake and maybe even a Saw 3-d sequel. Who knows, a nice successful horror movies like My Bloody Valentine 3-D and the re-release of Friday The 13th Part 3-D is what the genre needed.
